Periodontitis is a serious gum disease that can lead to tooth loss in the later stages. Periodontitis develops due to the proliferation of bacteria and the formation of tartar under the gums - in the gum pockets.
Due to the inflammatory process, all periodontal tissues suffer: gums, periodontal ligament that holds the tooth in the bone, bone tissue.
At the initial stage, symptoms include: unpleasant odor, bleeding gums, deepening of the gum pockets.
At later stages, gum recession is added (the necks of the teeth are exposed), bone loss, and tooth mobility. There may be purulent discharge.
